Belek is a township with own municipality in Serik district in Turkey's Antalya Province. The local population varies between 750 and 10,000 in low and high season, respectively.
Belek is one of the centers of Turkey's tourism industry and is as such home to more than thirty four-star and five-star hotels and many other accommodations, services and entertainment facilities.
Belek is a developing golf center. In 2012 it hosted the Turkish Airlines World Golf Final and in 2013 it hosted the Turkish Airlines Open.
The Kurşunlu Waterfall is a place in Belek. There are over 100 bird species living by this natural wonder. The hidden cave at the back of the waterfall is a popular place for visiting. Near Belek there is the Hellenistic city of Perge, which is rated second after Ephesus and the great amphitheater of Aspendos that still today can hold over 15.000 spectators.
The ancient Aspendos amphitheatre holds 20,000 people, is over 2000 years old and still hosts open- air classical, ballet and opera festivals today. The Roman ruins at Perge are some of the best preserved archaeological sites in Turkey. Side is one of the best-known classical sites in Turkey.
In the centre of town the mosque stands alongside statues and a waterfall leading to extensive shopping in the tree lined boulevards. This area is key to Turkey's overall tourism plans having already benefited from substantial investment by the Turkish Tourism Ministry. Turkey is beginning to rival the Algarve for the numbers of golfing tourists annually.
With extensive new blue flag beach park facilities, standards of cleanliness are high with shower, toilet and changing facilities and car parking right on the beach.
Belek enjoys an excellent southern Mediterranean climate with long hot dry summers and over 300 days of sunshine a year. Winters are mild, but see the majority of the yearly rainfall.
Belek is a popular beach resort situated on Turkey’s southern Mediterranean coast. It is a modern resort, overlooked by the towering Toros Mountains. The region has some of the best beaches and cleanest waters in the Med and is often referred to as the Turkish Riviera. It is becoming a popular golf holiday destination and boasts some excellent modern facilities. Nearby is the larger and better-known town of Antalya, which affords a stunning cliff top location and is well worth a visit.
Summers in this part of the world are long and hot with sunshine in abundance. By May daily highs are frequently in the mid 20s and above. The temperature steadily rises reaching an average of 28°C in July and August with highs of 34°C and lows of 22°C. Daily highs remain above 30°C in September and are still above 25°C in October.
Mid-summer really is very hot with the mercury often rising into the 40s. The highest temperature recorded is nearly 45°C. Thankfully, Belek’s coastal location means that it often benefits from cooling sea breezes. Believe me these are very welcome on the hottest days!
Rainfall in summer is very low and the arid countryside is proof of this. The period between June and September sees just 30mm in total on average – that is less than 3% of the annual rainfall.
December to February sees average temperatures between 11°C and 12°C with highs in the mid teens and lows down to about 6°C at night. So while the nights and early mornings can feel a little chilly, it is still very pleasant in the day, especially when the sun is out.
Theses three months are, however, most certainly the wettest of the year; more than 200mm can fall in a month. Around half the days each month feature some rainfall and heavy downpours occur when Mediterranean storms blow in.
When the sun is out, winter days are very pleasant; the temperatures don’t get as low on the coast as they do inland. If you do find yourself in Belek at this time and are hankering for some proper winter weather, the Toros Mountains are nearby and with some fairly good ski resorts.
