RestProperty offers some basic information on food quality and prices in Turkey for you to consider when thinking about purchasing of real estate and moving here.
There are three major places to buy food in a regular Turkish city – markets, corner shops and supermarkets. Corner shops usually sell essentials: bread, milk, grain, ayran, toiletries, fruit & veg, beers, wines, snacks etc. Price is somewhat higher than in supermarkets, but there's a possibility to order food for home delivery. Higher prices, smaller product range, and no fish or meat are amongst the disadvantages.
There are specified days for street markets in most cities in Turkey. They sell fruit and vegetables at lower prices.
Market prices of most products in Turkey are within one dollar range, but we still recommend to examine all prices before making any purchases. Even in this case, as a rule, you will probably buy twice as more as was originally planned.
The last option is supermarkets of which there are plenty. Majority of the population shops in supermarkets due to lower prices, and greater choice. Supermarkets sell a lot of different products: food, household appliances, clothes, alcohol, tobacco, accessories, electricals, etc. One of their advantages is a flexible discount available for most products. MIGROS chain of supermarkets has slightly higher prices, than, for example, TANSAS or GENPA, because of better service and more expensive brands. Antalya has constructed the biggest supermarket called REAL; you can even buy imported cheese, which is quite rare for Turkey. Alanya's KIPA supermarket chain has some of the lowest prices.
Turkish meat never gets frozen, is sold mainly fresh. There are special shops with pre-cut meat for specific dishes. Shops always sell a variety of lamb, chicken, beef and Turkey.

Being located on the Mediterranean Sea Turkey always has fresh selection of fish, but frozen salmon from Norway is also very popular. Fish is available in all supermarkets.
